Application
This competency was developed for Defence personnel required to manage range practices and range qualifications within a Defence working environment.
Typically, managers work independently under indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs. All activities are carried out safely in accordance with relevant organisational policies and procedures.

Audit range practice documentation | 1.1 Areas to be audited are identified. 1.2 Appropriate documentation to be audited is selected and inspected to confirm currency and accuracy. 1.3 Relevant reports are prepared and remedial action is recommended where appropriate. 1.4 Audit recommendations are reviewed to ensure that action has been implemented. |
2. Manage range safety | 2.1 Safety traces are inspected and accuracy is confirmed and approved in accordance with standard procedures. 2.2 Safety instructions are reviewed to ensure compliance with standard procedures. 2.3 Range practices are inspected to ensure compliance with standard procedures. |
3. Issue clearances to conduct range practices | 3.1 Ability of range conducting officers is confirmed. 3.2 Authority to conduct relevant range practices is issued and recorded in accordance with standard procedures. |
